The Hospitable Knights of St John

"This site was founded in the mid C12th to administer the local estates of the Knights Hospitallers. The Hospitallers were established in the early C12th following the first crusade to help sick nd poor pilgrims on their journeys to the Holy Land. The C13th chapel converted to a house in the C16th has a fine North Porch and a fine crown-post roof. There is also a surviving piscina."
This is the inscription on the information board at the site where we stopped on the way back from a very nice lunch at the Marquise in the Alkham Valley between Dover and Folkestone. This is in an isolated spot which we reached by narrow country roads. I was spoilt for blips today but chose this one.
