Heart of the rig

My brother is a Mechanic on another rig so he asked for a photo of our engine room. So here it is.
This is one of our engines, we have 4, for the mechanically minded they are all EMD 16-645-E8 engines with 1950 hp each, driving 4 x 1400kW, 600V, 60 Hz AC generators (one generator seen in the bottom left corner).

How much of these run at any one time depends on the operation, the heavier the load the more engines we run. Although it is seldom more than 3 and the mechanics try to keep one offline for servicing/ maintenance.

The red bottle to the right is a CO2 bottle, each engine has two attached and they are for local fire protection should an engine go on fire internally. This whole engine room is protected by a fixed CO2 system that is activated from outside the engine room and floods the space with CO2, starving the fire of oxygen and extinguishing it.
