The Kelpies

On the way back from Edinburgh we stopped at the new Helix UrbanPark in Falkirk to see , at closer quarters than is possible from the passing M9,  Andy Scott's amazing Kelpies.

There are absolutely stunning close up - weirdly gothic , rather intimidating but strangely inspirational.

Jim Carruth's  "Kelpies" poem, part of which is set into the walkway by the canal expresses very well, the feeling of strength,  tradition, familiarity but also mystery  that you experience looking at them.

"Echo the great beasts that work among us
unbridled in this kingdom between canal and firth
here to harness the river
Carry each weary traveller
Bow down your strong heads to taste the water
Stretch up your long necks to face the sun "
