The Sqaure Kauri Tree, Coromandel Peninsula

A back blip from a year ago in New Zealand. This is the amazing and miraculously-to-have survived Square Kauri Tree on the Coromandel Peninsula.

A species of Araucaria it is endemic to New Zealand and the second largest tree species in the world. Mercilessly logged by European settlers a few patches of these magnificent trees survive on the North Island.

The Square Kauri stand alone, in splendid isolation high up in the Coromandel Range. It is the Coromandel's 15th largest kauri tree and is estimated to be 1200 years old.

I'm currently writing a page about my brief trip to the Coromandel with losts more photos.
