Melting pot

Penang is a wonderful mix of cultures, religions, languages, people and architecture. In many ways Malaysia is a tolerant society. In other crucial ways it's definitely not.

This was the first afternoon's walk around the historic centre of Penang, which is all a UNESCO World Heritage site. Sweltering, yes, but I can see why it's one of the country's must-visit locations.
