Crane Silhouettes

Beautiful light and blue skies this evening as we drove through Greenock. This is a view looking across to the cranes at the Inchgreen Drydock.

Inchgreen Dry Dock (Garvel Drydock) built in 1962-1964 by the Firth of Clyde Dry Dock Company Ltd. At the time, it was one of the largest dry docks in the world, measuring 1,000 feet long, 145 feet wide, with a depth of 50 feet, designed to accommodate ships of up to 150,000 tons deadweight. The liner Queen Mary was used as a guide during its design. The Drydock cost £4.25 million to build.

I remember in 1965 when the Queen Elizabeth came in for a refit they had to make a modification to the dock to accommodate her.
