The ring sat in the window of the back-street jewellers. Until it was seen by a woman arm in arm with a man. She was in gold bangles and silver rings. And he was in love with her. She fell in love with the ring - which was in the shape of a silver snake swallowing its own tail - and he came back later and bought it for her.

But, as well as being in love with her, he was in love with the rush of gambling and the faster rush of drugs. And her gold bangles and silver rings got stolen and sold. The gold bangles were sold by weight and melted down. The silver rings were bought by a back-street jeweller and the silver snake was displayed in the window. Until it was seen by a woman hand in hand with a man.
