The old family home

We've been working up on the top of The Glen today, continuing to clear griselinia as we have been for some years! Now that these huge plants have gone we can look across to the Loch Melfort Hotel, built as Arduaine House by James Arthur Campbell, planter of Arduaine Garden, in 1895.

It was sold in 1965 and became originally the Loch Melfort Motor Inn and has gone through four sets of owners in that time. The family retained the garden until 1971, but eventually had to sell that too. The Wright brothers bought it in 1971 and gave it to the National Trust for Scotland in 1992.
