Founder of the Women's Suffrage Movement &.....

Births, Marriages & Deaths - all in one building?  Yes, this is the Grade 2 Listed Elliot House in the centre of Manchester.  Now sub-let to the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (where I was today). 

The first photo is on a wall as you go into the building and it is of Lydia Ernestine Becker - they had great names in those days didn't they?  She looks a formidable lady and able to give as good as she gets.  Read the link to her above to find out about the origins of the Suffrage Movement in Britain back in the 1860's...  Some great history in an equally great building.  Glad we haven't knocked this one down!
