Another Liernish stroll

The forecast has looked good all week for today and so it proved. The Last of the Summer Wine crew had pencilled in another stroll and off we went thermoses and sandwiches in hand - or at least in rucksacks - this time accompanied by the springer spaniel Sprout.
The plan was to visit and record a deserted village just on the edge of the Liernish peninsula. This image was of one of the three centres of building there and was perhaps the most impressive wall looming over the nearby shore.
The village is recorded as being in existence in a map of 1799 but was deserted by the mid 19th century and so presumably fell victim of the clearances. Nearly all these sites however are built on previous settlements as their position tends to be amongst the best positions to settle and the interesting thing to do is to try and peel back the history to the older underlying structures that are either Norse of Iron Age. Difficult to prove without excavation but easy to hypothesise!
With plenty of other interesting things to see, it was a good walk.
A takeaway for the local Chinese Takeaway - imaginatively called "The Chinese Takeaway" - brought the day to a good, if stomach stretching, close.
