Nicky and her Nikon

A view of the cathedral

It was another dull day with flat light in Durham. After breakfast Gavin and I went for a long walk along the river and watched some of the university teams rowing along the river. I could picture the scene in summer when the river would be full of boats and people enjoying the grassy river banks.

Luke phoned us at about lunch time to say he had finished his faculty visit which he had enjoyed very much. He was very impressed with the lecturers and is pleased with the course content. He had a good night staying in his college, where they had a formal dinner with all the usual college traditions, after which they moved into the JCR where they had fun until the early hours of the morning. He is thrilled with his college choice as it seems to be one of the very popular ones, is very sporty and apparently has the prettiest girls!! On the more serious side, it is very well located and close to the Modern Languages building, so all things considered, a great place to be.

After a quick lunch we drove through to Newcastle and are now waiting to board our plane back home again.

(Thanks to David for the location of this scene)
