Today's the day .......................... to plough the fields

There must have been hundreds of gulls following behind the tractor that was ploughing this field of stubble.

They rose up in a white, frenzied cloud every time it got to the end of a row and turned round to pass along the opposite way.  It looked like something out of a Hitchcock film.

What would they have been after?  Would there have been lots of field mice - or was it worms?  Whatever it was, they were very single-minded about grabbing it.  And I bet the tractor driver was glad to be inside his cab.
