found this cool guy in a creek. today we took genetic samples of 30 ponderosa pines, which involved measuring the height with a clinometer (stand 66.6 feet away and check the angles), finding the age (take a core sample and count the rings, usually older than 100), the diameter at breast height, and finally clipping a piece of branch.

surprisingly fun!
