Life is like a river

Sunny first day of Spring

The solar eclipse was of course the only thing people talked about here in Iceland today.  I was not really interested, but enjoyed watching other people's enthusiasm for trying out different methods for shielding their eyes while watching the sun and I snapped a few photos.  The colours from the CD made a fun pattern on the office wall and Helga's left ear was glowing red.  One of my coworkers had brought a piece of thick glass from a welding mask and that turned out best for watching the eclipse...well, apart from just watching it live on the computer screen!  But it was interesting to see how the light changed here in Akureyri during those two hours.

Today the pagans,  members of the Ásatrú society, also started building the first pagan temple to be built in 1000 years in Europe.

Tonight my son Kári will be going to Reykjavík to participate in a physics competition at The University of Iceland. If he turns out to be one of the top five winners on Sunday, he might be going to The International Physics Olympiad in India next July. He has a good chance of achieving this, because he was number four out of the 14 best participants in the preliminary competition.
I'm one very excited and proud mother right now! :)
