A Morning Climb

I came by and saw this snail halfway up the lamppost. Later I came back and he was all the way to the top.
I didn't think to ask him all the questions that I had in my head like:
What is his motivation?
Why did he go clear to the top?
Did he come back down?
Or did he somehow climb inside?
