Della Fattoria

Della Fattoria is a bakery in Petaluma with the best wood oven baked bread on the planet. We used to go there twice a week on our way to and from Sebastopol to pick up a loaf of bread. Now that we live in Santa Rosa, it is not such a regular occurrence, but we stopped by this morning on our way to the Helen Putnam Regional Park for a hike. I always love the seasonal, flamboyant decorations. You can just make out the loaves of bread on the shelves behind the giant chocolate easter eggs.

We also took my grandmother's temperamental Waterbury clock back to the clock shop in Petaluma for a last attempt at getting it working again. We learned another bit of local lore this morning when my brother admired the 20 foot long bar along one long wall of the shop. It was carried by her grandfather, piece by piece from his bar across the street when the building was torn down in 1960 for "civic improvements". Now instead of bottles of liquor, it is covered with old clocks.

According to my step counting watch, our walk in the regional park was only about 4,000 steps, but there is no extra credit for the fact that the first 700 are straight up a steep hill. The boy scouts were busy with shovels and picks and a motorized wheelbarrow carrying gravel, repairing a trail for an Eagle Scout project, reminding us of when Matthew built a new trail in Tilden Park in Berkeley for his Eagle Scout project.
