Extra Time for Altos

So, we decided we needed extra practice. We, being the alto section. Here we are at Ann's home, moments away from launching into song. With the exception of Karen (second from left, a former Allegrista who now sings with our jazz ensemble as well as in her own band, Bellingham Rendezvous), we are all alto singers from the Allegra Women's Ensemble.

We've got some really interesting pieces on our plate this season. Several are written by the talented Joan Szymko, artistic director of the Aurora Chorus in Portland (I hope my Portland blipfoto peeps are reading this). We barely scratched the surface with the time we had today, but we were able to make some real headway into tightening up our rhythm and phrasing. The more we can sing together, the happier our sound will be!

For those interested, you can come hear Allegra, along with the Whatcom Sound Jazz Singers, and our special guests Greta Matassa, Andrea Rackl, the Honeybees, and Misty Flowers when we gather to perform at F.A.M.E., our spring fundraising benefit next month. Let me know if you need a ticket!
