World Heritage train to Ooty

This morning we climbed even higher, up 8,640 feet, l felt quite whoozy at the top from the altitude. We looked down on all the valleys and terraces of tea. It was really quite beautiful.

Later, after a quick lunch of vegetable curry and chappatis at the railway station (cost £1 for two) we caught the narrow gauge rail train through the valleys to Ooty, the nearest town to where we are staying. We all crowded in and had a great time. I was sitting opposite two young Indians who had recently got married, a really nice couple who chatted all the trip and pointed things out. The din was terrific, the Indians really enjoy themselves noisily and whooed every time we went through a tunnel. This train and track has world heritage protection.
