Polymer fivers

Today, the first plastic (or polymer) fivers in the UK were released into circulation by the Clydesdale Bank, to commemorate Sir William Arrol (designer of the bridge) and the 125th anniversary of the opening of the bridge.

Apparently, they are more durable and much harder to fake. Other countries that have polymer notes include: Australia (introduced in 1988), Canada, Mexico and Singapore. The Bank of England are introducing polymer fivers next year.

Off the the Festival Theatre this evening to see 'The Producers'
