Bass Rock

This afternoon I caught a glimpse of the Bass Rock as I was driving to a client's premises. I stopped and got the camera out.

The sun was catching it nicely. I'm not sure how many miles away it is - maybe 10. It's just offshore from North Berwick, on the south shore of the Firth of Forth.

It's home to 150,000 gannets in the breeding season (starting about now). They cover almost every available piece of ground.

It isn't inhabited these days, since the lighthouse was automated.

It also reminded me to take a boat trip out there when the weather gets a bit warmer. It's on my bucket list.
