Life and death

here.
Many gravestones in old churchyards are full of symbolism and there are pictures on both sides of this grave but the sides are quite unusual.  A chain and clamp are around a skull and above the crossbones and an arrow and scythe which are all symbolic of death and mortality.  On the front is a winged face which implies the soul of the deceased and drapes commemorating the theatre of life.  The back has flowers which also have some symbolism.
It is not easy to read the inscription but appears to be the grave of Mary Brand who was married to John Taylor and died in June 1740.

The back can be seen here.
