Grey's Monument, Newcastle

I was up at Northumbria University today, as I've just been appointed as an external examiner there. It was good to meet key members of the course team and some students, and to get an introduction to the course structure.

Walking back down to the station to get the train home, it was a beautiful spring afternoon. I stopped in Grainger Street to take this photo of Grey's Monument, which was erected as a memorial to Earl Grey, who was Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834. He is notable for his role in the Great Reform Act of 1832 which introduced a more representative electoral system. Of course, he is also known for his association with Earl Grey tea, which is named after him.
