Flight to Chiang Mai

We arrived in Yangon at around 6.30am and walked off the bus like zombies. Our plan was to find a nearby cafe to waste six hours before we had be at the airport but it was quickly obvious that there was nowhere suitable, so we got a 10 minute taxi to the airport. We were far too early to check in, so we went to the food center opposite and made use of A/C, drinks and food. We played some cards and tried to make the hours go by, but we were all so tired that we were spaced out.

Finally it was time to check in at the airport. None of us wanted to check our backs, so Liv stood with the bags while we checked in. It worked, as always. I've been on countless flights during this trip and still always taken my big bag as carry on. However, this time we were almost caught out when we found the plane was so small that the over-head compartments were barely big enough for our small bags. Luckily the plane was half empty (and half full) so we were able to give the bags their own seats.

When we finally arrived at our hotel in Chiang Mai (which I'd booked by email earlier in the day), we found only two beds in our room instead of three and the swimming pool was closed for cleaning (which, of course, they'd forgotten to mention by email). We were forced to pay extra for them to add a third bed and we got to our room. We then noticed that the A/C wasn't working properly and we were all sweating having just had cold showers. After a lot of arguing with the staff, we moved rooms and finally we could relax!

Nick wasn't well but Liv and I went out for some tasty red wine by the Sunday night market. It was a good end to a pretty stressful two days.
