RWC 2015

At a meeting in Richmond to find out about the plans for the rugby world cup. Very interesting and useful information. At one point I did wonder if the next speaker was going to talk about "legacy" and "diversity" a la 2012. The local police assured us that counter-terrorism is a threat they take seriously... Then the counter-terrorism officer appeared from behind the curtain :-)

It seems like the key issue is there will be no parking so everyone will come by train or park and ride and on top of that quite a few of the games won't finish till 10pm. Twickenham station can cope with 10,000 per hour normally and with extra trains thats up to 14,000. The stadium capacity is 83,000 + probably 20,000 not in the stadium. So do the the maths without any action they will get maybe 30-40,000 people home before the trains stop running around midnight. That is why the have to close the A316 for 4 hours before and 3 hours after the game to turn it into a coach park. All makes perfect sense now ! Actually they seem to have thought it through quite well. Fingers crossed.

(Ah yes this shot is in the in the Tapas bar afterwards)
