Wonderful old homestead...

We stayed in a backpackers in Greymouth over the weekend. It is a wonderful old homestead that was built in 19l4. This is the history-Following the discovery of gold on the West Coast in 1864 miners flocked to the area. a great number of these were Irish Catholics and they were followed rapidly by priests to care for their spiritual needs. This house was built as the presbytery next door to a Catholic church which has now gone, demolished after the Inangahua earthquake in 1968. This building had a nickname of Noah's Ark because it was  higher than surrounding land  and was a safe place during some of the devastating floods which have hit Greymouth in the past.It was sold in 1989 and began life as a backpackers named Noah's Ark. It is wonderful inside and cheap accommodation.
