The Wild Wild West

salt.

I wish I'd had my camera with me as I flew from Cairns to Alice Springs, as the evidence of ancient river systems was just astounding.

But I had it here, as we flew from Alice to Sydney.  These are salt lakes in the desert.  Let's back that up a minute.  Salt lakes that are the remains of a sea covering the centre of the Australian landmass.  Lakes that look pretty enormous from out of a plane window.  Flying at 32,000 feet.  Imagine.  Imagine how vast that sea must've been, then imagine that this is the middle of a country.

wow.  I've used that word before.
