Friends

Happy Palm Sunday everyone! We went to Quim and Lena's church here in Lisbon - large and lively, and very friendly, and an excellent sermon on the veracity of the resurrection by a man who's done a doctorate on the subject - food for thought.

Then we ate in one of those small, unassuming restaurants that seem to abound in Portugal, with paper tablecloths and the most amazing food - I had "feijoada de camarões" - a white bean stew with prawns - superb. Afterwards, they drove us out to Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point in continental Europe.

Quim is the first person, as M is fond of saying, that he made friends with in Portuguese - in Coimbra, the year we were engaged - 30 years ago. Over the years, we've renewed the friendship with stopovers on the way to and from Brazil, introducing our kids as they came along, and now our first grandchildren.

A privilege to spend more time with them and realise how strong the friendship is, and how much we appreciate each other. By the way, one of these men is half-African - can you guess which one??
