Life in Newburgh on Ythan

A March stone

This old lump of granite is a March (the Old Scots word for boundary) stone. Situated in our village it is carved with the letter U on one side and an F on the other. They stand, I think, for Foveran and Udny and mark the boundary between the two ancient estates.

I have to admit that I moved the stone before I photographed it as the background was very boring. This was done digitally and not manually you will understand; my back isn't up to that, nor my arms nor my  legs!
