Nanchang 2012

Watch out...there're "experts" about!

Today was the 4th "Nanchang Forum" for Foreign Experts, an annual event bringing together foreign experts in Nanchang, such as engineers and teachers, with high-ranking officals from the local government and guest speakers from around the world.

This year's topic was (warning: a mouthful of Chinglish incoming) "Forge core growth pole and construct the talents management reform test zone" which was explained as having something to do with making Nanchang the engine to drive growth throughout Jiangxi and the need to recruit and retain talented people, both domestic and foreign, in order to achieve this goal.

The speakers were experts in the field of talent management and came from Germany, Denmark, Australia and Singapore. Despite all the interesting things they had to say the one thing that really jumped out at me was a statistic regarding the population of Nanchang. Apparently the population of Nanchang in 2003 was 1,960,000 but by 2010 it had reached 5,030,000 - an increase of just over 3 million people in only 7 years!
