The Snooker Club

I have lost count of the number of times I have previously walked down this busy shopping street and not noticed these carvings just above head height.   This, now somewhat tatty, building opened in 1877 as Friendly Societies Hall dishing out benefits before the Welfare State, and is now the home of the Tunbridge Wells Snooker Club, with Milletts on the ground floor.

The reason for elephant carvings has been lost in the mist of time.
