Shadows of the Wanderer

An amazing sculpture by Ana Maria Pacheco formed of ten over life-size figures installed in the North Transept of Norwich Cathedral.  Each figure is carved from a single lime tree and they crowd together like shadows behind a young man carrying an older man on his back.

Each figure is incredibly expressive and conjures up many emotions.

Ana Maria Pacheco was Head of Fine Art at Norwich School of Art from 1985-1989 and her work is currently on display at four locations in Norwich for a few months: the Art School Gallery, the Anglican Cathedral,  the Catholic Cathedral and the Castle.

I saw the work at the Art School as well today, which was also amazing.

You can see some of the 'Wanderer' figures in some photos I took here.

It's been a nice start to the holiday weekend.  Lunch with a friend, lots of mooching time to see these two exhibitions, and glorious sunshine.
