The Charge of the Light Brigade

This is the grave marker of Sir George Wombell, the longest surviving officer who took part in the ill fated Charge of the Light Brigade on October 15th 1854 during the Crimean war.
George was only twenty two at the time and was aide de camp to Lord Cardigan, the Commander of the Light Brigade. He survived the charge (just) and lived into the next century, dying on October 16th 1913. He is buried in the family plot at St. Michael's church in Coxwold, North Yorkshire.
