Mountain Hare in Winter Jacket

A few days ago we were working on the north side of the Monadhliath mountains. I didn't mention it (because I couldn't get a photo of one) but that site was notable for its population of mountain hares. They go white in winter and they were conspicuous against the dark heather then became invisible as they darted across snow fields. Today we were working on the south edge of the same massif and I could not believe my luck. Two of the beautiful animals appeared at my side and I had the camera in my hand. I can't ever recall getting so close to an animal like this in the wild.
