50th Anniversary

Not of marriage, that's 40 years next month, but 50 years since I, and 50 odd other young men, arrived at RAF Cosford for our training.

Next month we have a reunion, at RAF Cosford, to celebrate this event. I think it was about the 6 May when we arrived, not a clue what we were letting ourselves in for.
We all then embarked on 12 months of training as Telegraphists (Wireless including Morse Code and Voice, teleprinters communications etc.) and Photographers.
From there, in 1966, I was posted to HQ Bomber Command, very exciting place to work. after that it was Oman, Singapore, Malta, Gan (Maldives) and in the UK at Boddington (near Cheltenham) and Rudloe Manor near Bath.
I was also lucky enough to spend a few months at ADNC Barton Hall, Preston, (Air Defence Notification Centre), Sri Lanka and Cyprus for sailing championships and a holiday to Penang while I was based in Singapore. Three of us did that trip by train from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur and on to Butterworth and then the ferry across to Penang.

What a live that scary arrival at Cosford started, it was fun :-)
