In the darkness?

This beautiful flower is on the plant that belonged to my mother-in-law  before she died a few years ago now and I still don't know the name of the plant which bears such beautiful deep purple flowers.

Light emerges from darkness.  There are different shades and colours in the darkness.  We were treated on Thursday night to a wonderful display on a ship in the middle of the water not far from the town of Tromso of the power of nature to show how light can emerge from the darkest darkness.
