Memorial

Today we went for a walk along the canal and finally we managed to make it to the small enclosure where the remains of 50 men and boys were laid to rest after the Black Vein Colliery Disaster on December 1 1860.
Today there is little that reminds us of the disaster, the colliery itself is long gone and only a few headstones remain along with this memorial stone -  a reminder of a terrible tragedy that still haunts the valley
