A LIttle bit of Marsh Mallow

This afternoon a friend asked it I wanted to with her to her son's house and pick the tomatoes and other fruits that were ready, as he is on honeymoon. It was a wonderful big garden full of wonderful flowers... so I had a field day!

Just after I got home we had a good shake.. a earthquake. The house really rattled and moved around. First biggish one for a while and don't want any more!

Althaea officinalis (marsh-mallow, or common marshmallow) is a perennial species indigenous to Africa, which is used as a medicinal plant and ornamental plant. A confection made from the root since ancient Egyptian time evolved into today's marshmallow treat.

Besides the medicinal virtues of so many species, some are employed as food; the bark of others affords a substitute for hemp; the cotton of commerce is obtained from the seed vessels of yet other species, and many ornamental garden flowers are also members of this group, the Hibiscus and our familiar Hollyhock among the number.

Boiled in wine or milk, Marsh Mallow will relieve diseases of the chest, constituting a popular remedy for coughs, bronchitis, whooping-cough, etc., generally in combination with other remedies. It is frequently given in the form of a syrup, which is best adapted to infants and children.
