MonoMonday:Earth....

..... or rather Salt of the Earth.

The Championships Race Meeting postponed from Saturday was held at Royal Randwick today.

Our horse had missed qualifying when she ran 3rd last month in the heat but due to the 2nd place getter scratching she got a run after all.

At 100/1 we knew she would be outclassed but the temptation to have a starter at Sydney's biggest race day of the year was too much.

Accordingly she only beat a couple home, but what a great day we had.

We scored invitations to the Directors' Lunch in the Grand Ballroom where we spent the day in unaccustomed splendour partaking of a sumptuous banquet and copious amounts of Veuve Clicquot rubbing shoulders with other celebrities.

I didn't know how I was going to come up with something for the MonoMonday (now kindly hosted by notowennewitt) theme of Earth.
Mr isbi suggested that due to the very heavy track there would be plenty of earth on the jockeys when they returned to scale, but the grass was too lush and that wasn't the case.

So I have settled for this image of our trainer explaining why she was going to run a good race. 

I was pleased to see notowenneweitt declare that "four elements (one of which is 'earth' ) were even used to describe the four temperaments a person could have".
Earthy is a perfect description of Peter who provided a refreshing contrast to the other excesses of the day.

By the way, we are wondering what they did with all the food prepared for Saturday's abandoned banquet.
