Model Railway Project - upgrading turnouts

Having finished the renovation of the cloakroom, I managed to grab a few hours on the model railway project. It is now at the track laying stage, but I wanted to follow through a procedure to make the Peco turnouts (points) look more realistic, by removing a large piece of plastic and replacing it with some sleepers. I am using Cobalt point motors and hence do not require any springs to be in place on the turnout.
In the photo, the upper turnout is an original and the lower one has "had the operation", although the substitute sleepers still need to be soldered into place.
