O wall, o wall ...
O wall, O sweet and lovely wall,
Show me thy chink, to blink through with mine eyne!
This wonderful piece of nonsense (from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream) drifted into my head as I saw this lovely wall which has recently been built at the entrance to a farm building in the Ardyne area. Last time we were here, it was very much a project in hand, more ditch than wall; now it's as fine a piece of dry-stane dyking as I've seen, and topped with these lovely old red sandstone pieces which have clearly been salvaged from some other wall.
And though there are tiny chinks between the stones, I hardly think they're enough to see light through, let alone Thisbe!
