The 'Bargeman' 2005 by Utopia Forge

A modern statue of 'The Bargeman' stands by the Town Wharf, where the river barges used to unload their cargoes. Guildford became prosperous for many reasons,  including the use of the River Wey as a means of transport and the centre of barge construction for the Wey barges, which were built a little down the river at Dapdune Wharf.

I was pleased to show off this statue today to a group of friends along with many of Guildford's places of interest, both old and modern. So lucky to live near such an interesting town.
