Year Three

Progress....

Doesn't look like it, but we made progress today with clearing up the garden.

Three piles of debris built; one for wood, one for metal, one for general trash. The metal pile is then subdivided into three more piles; general steel/iron (LDA mix), aluminum, and other high value stuff.

We'll break up the aluminum tomorrow, essentially it needs to be 'clean' aluminum when it's weighed in as we'll get 3 times the amount over dirty aluminum. Essentially, when it's 'clean' it means it's free of plastics and other metals.

Problem with LDA mix metals is that it's only $6 per 100lb. Clean aluminum is $55 per 100lb, and things like brass and copper are up at $200 per alumimun.

The guy who usually helps us is great at scrapping as well. He knows how to strip things to gain the best value, so we'll do that.

You may ask why - I'm trying to get as much money from the scrap metal to pay for the dumpster for everything else. And I have a nasty feeling we're looking at a 20-30 yard container at the very least.

However today went well. 6 hours, 3 people and we had a lot cleared up, quickly put some sides on my trailer for the trash metal run to the scrapper tomorrow.

So although this photograph doesn't look great, we did get a lot done.

We're putting wood in it's own pile for a very simple reason - it packs much better on the dumpster (flatter) and use a lot less space. If you simply toss wood into the dumpster ontop of other junk then it'll take up more space, but if you pack it properly, you can get full value for money - which is what we're going for here. We have a lot of stuff to get rid of. Lots of stuff.

Still reckon that with a big dumpster we can have this property cleared in 3 days flat.
