Last Day in Galapagos

This is a Galapagos land tortoise, on Santa Cruz Island, on our last day there.  Originally, I believe, there were 14 species of Galapagos tortoises, each on a different island (although some of the islands had fused together over time).  They were pretty easy prey for humans, and predators that humans introduced,  so there numbers are much reduced, and some of the species are extinct.  The last of the Pinta Island tortoises, known as "Lonesome George", died in 2012.  He wasn't able to reproduce with female Galapagos Tortoises from other islands.
