Nakhl Fort, Oman

Nakhl Fort sits where the plain meets the mountains overlooking extensive date plantations fed by water from hot springs.

Reputedly the fort dates from pre-Islamic times, rebuilt in the 17th Century with an outer wall and gate added in the 1830s.  It is build on a rocky eminence and dominates the nearby areas and trade-routes.

Seen here are the domestic rooms at the top and in the heart of the Fort for the Imam and his family.
