Finally, wee propershoots of eating-plants, instead of the usual bastardroot and sneakweed, though there were still some of them to be dealt with in the opposite corner of the plot, where I finally got round to harvesting some of the compost from the giant heap, which had to be hoicked over the collapsing fence to be tipped into the raised bed. There is only one at the moment, but one is more than there was at the start of the day, despite the intermittent hail and rain; the frame of a second is still in the shed, awaiting more time. The cost of achieving a few hours' uninterrupted toil was unfortunately borne by Edgar, who had some unlicensed foodstuffs inserted into him whilst out of our care, resulting in some stropping when he got home.
