South Norwood Lake

A lovely green area in the middle of South Norwood, complete with lake (where people fish - we saw several enormous fish: carp?), sail boats and feed the ducks and geese. There was also a full game of cricket going on, and a play area where my grandsons had a wonderful time terrifying me on the slides.

The lake is apparently fed by a spring, and came into existence as part of a proposed canal connecting Croydon to London. You can read more about the history of the lake here - where I have just found out that it is very deep (18') and has no shallow bits. Better not let the boys fall in ...
