Sgwarnog: In the Field

Tallest

Which is the tallest structure in this view?

The closest of the three coal-fired power stations which we can see out of the window, Ferrybridge is about twenty five miles away.  I love the repeating cloud shadow on the cooling towers.

The wind turbine is a relatively new addition to the landscape, having been erected at Yorkshire Water's Knostrop treatment works a few months ago.

The tower block on the right is, I think, Bridgewater Place, which until the wind turbine went up was the tallest structure in Leeds.

In descending order:

1. Ferrybridge twin chimneys: 198 metres.

2. Knostrop wind turbine: 123 metres

3. Bridgewater Place: 111 metres.

As mentioned previously in this journal, none of these are the tallest structures in our view, that honour going to Emley Moor mast (330.5 m) followed by the Drax chimney (259m) and the Eggborough Chimney (200m).

What's the tallest thing you can see out of your window?
