Cockermouth Castle

We live really close to Cockermouth Castle.

It has a comanding position overlooking the river Derwent, and the river Cocker.

There has been a castle on this site since the early C12th.

When Mary Queen of Scots came to Cockermouth in 1568, the castle was in a state of disrepair, and she stayed at Cockermouth Hall instead.

It is now privately owned, and is occasionally opened to the public...
