New Lanark

This World Heritage Site is a restored 18th century cotton mill village near the town of Lanark. Started by David Dale and Richard Arkwright it is where Robert Owen a Welsh social reformer developed his utopian socialism experiment raising the living standards of the workers and educating their children. Today the restored mills are a major visitor attraction and in addition there are the spectacular  Falls of Clyde accessible by footpaths and the Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve, more at www.newlanark.org
