Ferns

There are 12,000 species in the fern family.

Ferns popped up about 360 million years ago.

Some tardy newcomers only arrived on the scene 145 million years ago.

Some fern species have not evolved for 180 million years - evolutionary stasis. Bone idle!

Someone who studies ferns is a pteridologist. I am not one, but I can use Wikipedia.

I do love them though, the way they slowly unravel.
